Ken and Tan Sdn Bhd was established as a boat building and manufacturing company in August 22, 1996 in a backyard located at No.1, Spg. 538 in Kg Kapok that served as a factory site.
Now in its 13th year, the company has grown from strength to strength, expanding operations with a purchase of a factory building worth BND 0.5M located at Lot 37 in the Salar Industrial Estate in Muara and converted it into a boat factory.
Under the leadership of Mr. S. Y. Tan, the company’s Managing Director, who has 27 years experience in boat building, it has become one of the biggest boat companies in Brunei Darussalam. Mr. Tan himself is the boat designer and started building the boats himself. Boating is his major hobby and this is manifested in his love of boats. In fact, he has 5 different sizes and models of boats for his personal use.
Every new boat model or size built is initially tested and sea trialed for stability, speed, performance and durability before given the seal of approval for further production and sale. Every year, Ken and Tan comes up with at least 3 to 4 new boats of different models and sizes.
With its present thirty five (35) dedicated skilled and semi-skilled workers and staff, including a few boat specialists, it now has a production capacity of about thirty units of small and medium-sized boats per month, an average of one boat a day.
Ken And Tan Sdn Bhd’ specializes in other marine related areas too. For every size of boat it makes, comes a trailer that goes with the boat. Stainless steel welding of fuel tanks, railings, ski poles, awning and canopy frames tops standards. Outboard engines, all kinds of boat and marine accessories are supplied upon order. Boat seats and benches could be custom made according to customers’ specifications.
Aside from boat manufacturing, the company is also fabricating other fiberglass products such as:

Ken And Tan Sdn Bhd supplies to most departments of the Government of Brunei Darussalam aside from being the favorite of the local community and expatriates. Recently, we have taken another step forward – by going global. We are now exporting to Malaysia, Australia and other countries.
